Barrios, who will be attending Northeastern University in the fall to study biology, worked during this school year with students on a drama presentation project at Ellsworth Avenue School.
“I loved working with the kids,” Barrios said. “It was a way for them to interact with things they are learning and reading in the books that the plays were based on.”
Barrios will also receive a scholarship from Northeastern. She said her experiences at DHS have put her in a position to hit the ground running in college.
“Everything I was interested in, there was a class,” she said. “I’m now in a computer science class and building robots. It’s something I’ve never done. Being exposed to all these courses and opportunities, it makes me interested in learning more.”
Sonni also said that the size of DHS is one of its greatest assets. She appreciated the opportunity to blend with so many different cultures and groups of students with specific interests.
“At DHS, there is a place for everybody,” she said.
