Our Sixth Grade honoree is a student that is firmly planted in the Wooster community with, now, a trimester and change under his belt as a General.
I suspect that I could walk up to any student, teacher, adviser, or coach in the middle school, show them a picture of this young man, and they’d light up and they’d say something close to: “Oh! What a nice kid.”
Now, nice is good. Nice is better than good. It’s great, and in any conversation about citizenship, of course, kindness is a hugely important thread. What's more impressive is the “ands” that I’ve found in feedback from his teachers and job captain.
He is nice, and involved, and hardworking, and a frequent volunteer, and respected as a leader.
“He is very polite, and always willing to help,” said a teacher in an email. “He has fit into my advisory and into Wooster like a hand fitting into a glove. Hurrah! He has a positive attitude and friendly demeanor with all his classmates in Spanish. He has never said an unkind word to anyone in the class. He is hard working and a real leader.”
His Job Captain said he is “A great worker in the Science wing. He was always enthusiastic and worked hard. If I asked him to do a job, he would go the extra step and do the next one too.”
Our dining hall does not run without volunteers to help with lunchtime jobs. He volunteered nine times for waiter or KP through the last citizenship period. So, I’m sure that you will agree: the evidence is overwhelming in support of this gentleman’s recognition today.
To a nice young man, to an important ingredient in our 6th grade and in our middle school, we say: “Hurrah!” to Jason Hartnett.
