“He consistently cleans up the Humanities room after every class period, and does so without expectation of recognition. He cleans up after his classmates, who often leave unnecessary trash/messes. It is extremely helpful to both his teachers and his peers that he helps to maintain the third floor of Coburn as a clean, organized learning space,” said his Humanities teacher.
“I was just walking over from the SciBi to the library, to stop in Ms. Reed's office for a quick chat. I passed numerous students, many of whom smiled and said 'hello.' When I approached the door leading to the inner library, he was on the opposite side, looking to exit.
"When he saw me - and without thinking - he stepped aside and held the door open with one arm. I myself tend to do this for people, and so I too was stopped on the other side of the door, looking back at him. ‘I insist,’ he said. I walked through the door, reflecting briefly on what a gentle and kind young man he really is,” said another teacher.
Upper School Dean of Students Hannah Reed says Shea, in his first year of Upper School, embodies the values at Wooster.
“He is wise beyond his years, and models citizenship for his peers. To conclude, I would like to end with a quote from the student himself. ‘To move forward in life, you just need to shut up and listen.’”
