He will present “Careers in Diplomacy: Internship and Job Opportunities at the Department of State.” The discussion, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Warner Hall Lyceum 102 on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury.
“I hope he inspires our students, especially those interested in political science, to pursue careers in politics, to get involved and be engaged citizens, and to think about America’s role globally,” said R. Averell Manes, WCSU professor of political science and conflict studies. “This is a good opportunity for them to understand how politics is relevant to their lives and will hopefully encourage them to educate themselves more about political issues that are close to home or thousands of miles away.”
Stewart has spent most of the past 30 years serving in critical and often volatile areas of the Middle East and has served at U.S. embassies in Egypt, Canada and Sweden. He retired from the U.S. Department of State in 2013 as a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. His final assignment was a deputy chief of mission at the U.S. embassy in Stockholm, Sweden. He was also a visiting professor and diplomat in residence at the University of Texas at Austin where he taught a graduate course on U.S. diplomacy.
