Western Connecticut State University Offers Events In Danbury

DANBURY, Conn. -- Western Connecticut State University in Danbury will be having several events this month for the community to attend, including art exhibits, musical performances and more.

Through Art Exhibitions

“Corrugated Worlds: The Work of James Grashow,” will be on display from 1-4 p.m. this weekend in the Art Gallery of the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the WCSU Westside campus, 43 Lake Avenue Extension, Danbury. Grashow is a renowned sculptor and woodcut artist known for his large-scale installations and delicate menageries constructed out of cardboard. The exhibition is free. The WCSU Archives will host an exhibition entited “100 Years Since the First World War,” during library hours through Dec.17 in the Ruth Haas Library on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St., Danbury. The exhibit will feature three cases of material from the university archives collection, ranging from political cartoons to memorial services, all offering a fascinating glimpse into America during World War I. Opera Scenes

“Opera Scenes,” featuring the WCSU Opera Ensemble and accomplished WCSU alumni in favorite opera scenes and excerpts, will be at 8 p.m. Dec. 6 in the Veronica Hagman Concert Hall of the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Ext. Veronica Hagman Concert Hall Dedication and Naming Concert

“Holiday Jazz,” a salute to the classic holiday television variety shows of the late 1960s, including holiday music associated with vocalist Andy Williams and pop music of that era from artists such as Laura Nyro, Jimmy Webb and the 5th Dimension, will feature the WCSU Jazz Orchestra with Jamie Begian conducting, at 3 p.m. Dec. 7 in the Veronica Hagman Concert Hall of the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Avenue Extension. Student Directed Plays
