Simon Felicione “makes it look easy, almost effortless, to exert positive leadership and influence through his surroundings,” Peter Lingenheld, middle school dean of students, said in a press release.
One of Felicione’s teachers described him as “unfailingly polite and helpful; he’s always looking to do the right thing.”
Felicione is also known for working hard and being a good friend, Lingenheld said.
Matthew Honeycutt, who coached Felicione in boys’ basketball over the winter, said Felicione flourished on the team.
“Playing on this team allowed him to develop skills that he already possessed but had not yet been given the opportunity to use. Once he got his confidence up, his courage followed, and he started to lead,” Honeycutt said.
“He's going to be a great basketball player -- but he'll be an even better leader. He's got a way of managing his peers that keeps balance between them.”
“All types of kids benefit from this young man being in their group. He does a wonderful job of including everyone and never seems distracted by the need to get credit for it.”
