Danbury Flyers Capture 3 Medals At CT Middle School Championships

DANBURY, Conn. -- The Danbury Flyers ran last Saturday in the Connecticut Middle School State Cross Country Championship at Wickham Park in Manchester.

There were 369 girls and 416 boys in the races, which covered 1.7 miles. Despite the large field, the Flyers had three medalists: Valerie Fox in 16th place overall with a time of 12:12.6, Gabriella Teixeira in 17th place overall with a time of 12:13.1, and Maya Gawley in 33rd place overall with a time of 12:28.0.

Other finishers for the girls included: Vivian Mendez in 70th place (13:12), Sofia Whelchel in 91st place (13:27), Emily You in 199th place (14:32), Marianna Teixeira in 256th place (15:11), Lily Mills in 294th place (16:02), Zoe Bowman in 300th place (16:11), and Daniella Spratt in 333rd place (17:26).

The top boy finisher for the Flyers was Scott Gersten in 121st place, who finished the course in 12:15.7 minutes. Other finishers for the boys included: Adam Fox in 140th place (12:25), Alexander Gibson in 191st place (12:55), Steven Confesor-Chable in 337th place (14:28), Nico Cuevas in 385th place (16:24), and Max Coisman in 390th place (16:49).

The Flyers will next compete in the Junior Olympic Cross Country District Meet in Litchfield on Sunday, Nov. 15. Joining the Flyers for this race are approximately 25 athletes from the Danbury High School boys and girls cross country teams who have just completed their season.
