Danbury Native Austin Calitro Signs With San Francisco 49ers

DANBURY, Conn. -- Danbury native Austin Calitro signed a two-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, the team announced.

The 23-year-old Calitro attended Danbury High School and Villanova University. Calitro is a 6-foot, 240-pound linebacker who originally signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted rookie in May, but was later waived by the team.

During his time at Villanova from 2012 to 2016, Calitro appeared in 48 games and registered 220 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, eight passes defensed, three forced tumbles and two interceptions. As a senior in 2016, he tied the team lead with 86 tackles, and registered 12 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks, earning First-Team All-CAA honors.

In 2015, he led the team with 90 tackles and three forces fumbles, and finished with 11.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks, and earned Third-Team All-CAA honors. During the 2014 season he played in all 14 games and had 33 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one interception and one pass defensed. He appeared in 10 games in 2013 and had 11 tackles.

Calitro will wear number 47, the 49ers announced.
