Smith won her fourth Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week award and her second Eastern College Athletic Conference rookie award this week.The ECAC consists of consists of various Division I teams in New England.
Smith scored double digits in two wins last week. She was the star in a 77-66 win against Iona, tallying her first career double-double with 20 points, and a personal best in rebounds (10) and assists (six) all without committing a turnover. Smith out-rebounded the conference's best rebounder in Joy Adams (10-7) and collected five offensive boards. Smith shot 60 percent from the floor, and scored 15 points in the second half for the win.
Smith kept the Stags in the game against Monmouth and hit the game-tying jumper with 35 seconds remaining to force overtime. Fairfield won, 54-42, as Smith had a career-high four blocks in the contest. For the week, Smith averaged 17 points, six rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and shot 52 percent from the floor.
Smith is averaging 12.8 points per game, which leads the team, and is on pace to break the Stags rookiescoring record.
The Stags, who have won four of their last five games, are currently in a tie for third-place with Iona. Fairfield will embark on their longest road trip of the MAAC season, heading to Buffalo, N.Y. to take on Canisius on Thursday at 11 a.m. Fairfield is 9-12 overall and 8-4 in the MAAC.
