Smith, a sophomore, transferred after one year at St. Joseph’s University. She was red-shirted last year at Fairfield. She has started all eight games for the Stags, and is averaging 11.8 points and 4.9 rebounds. She is averaging of 30 minutes per game for Fairfield (2-6).
“We are very pleased with the progress Casey has made,” coach Joe Frager said in a story on the Fairfield women’s basketball website. “Coming into this season it had been over two years since she played in a regular season game. She had a really solid week for us offensively.”
Smith averaged 14 points per game and shot 42 percent from the floor in Fairfield’s 1-1 week. Smith, who had 14 points in each game, shot 45 percent from the floor against Siena and added two assists without a turnover. Smith kept the Stags alive by going four-for-five from the line in the win. She also had 11 rebounds in the weekend, with four offensive boards.
Smith has 94 points in her first eight collegiate games, which are the most by a Stag rookie in over 15 years.
Fairfield takes a break for final exams before travelling to New Jersey for a meeting with Seton Hall on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m.
