Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim, a 1981 University of Connecticut alumnus, announced that he and Mayor Beth Van Duyn of Irving, Texas, home of the University of Texas Longhorns, have a friendly wager on the teams’ match-up in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Eastern Regional final at Webster Bank Arena.

Ganim is betting a case of Connecticut micro-brew beer on the Huskies in exchange for a bet of Texas micro-brew from Van Duyne.

“This is a great year to be a Huskies fan and watch our undefeated women once again advance towards the national title right here in Bridgeport,” Ganim said. “I told Mayor Van Duyne that she is brave to put in a wager against this Huskies team, but she is a good sport and has agreed to ship us a case of locally brewed Texas beer should UConn come away victorious tonight.

"Of course, I will do the same if Texas wins. In any case we are looking forward to an exciting competition tonight! Go Huskies!”

If the No. 1-ranked Huskies do not emerge victorious over the No. 2 Longhorns, Ganim will ship Van Duyn a selection of brews from Bridgeport's Aspetuck Brew Lab, Stratford’s own Two Roads Brewery, New England Brewing Company in Woodbridge and Thomas Hooker Brewery in Bloomfield.
