Vote Now: Ridgefield Rower In The Running For Junior Athlete Of The Year

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. — Kaitlyn Kynast of Ridgefield, a rower with the Connecticut Boat Club, has been nominated for Junior Athlete of the Year in the Fan's Choice Awards for US Rowing.

Online voting by fans closes at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24. The winner of Junior Athlete and other categories will be announced Wednesday, Oct. 25.

Kaitlyn Kynast, 18, graduated this year from Ridgefield High School and now attends Stanford University. 

She rowed for Norwalk-based Connecticut Boat Club with Coach Liz Trond. 

She was captain of the team the last two of her three years rowing with CBC. All three years she competed at nationals, winning a gold medal in 2016 and in 2017. She was also a member of the Under 19 National Team for the last three years, winning a gold medal her novice year (2015) and then a bronze in 2016 and in 2017. 

In the 2017 World Rowing Junior Championships, she was third in the women's four. In 2016, she was third in the women's pair. In 2015, she won the women's four.

Nationally, she finished fourth in the four with coxswain at the 2015 USRowing Youth National Championships and won the four with coxswain and pair at the 2015 USRowing Northeast Regional Championships.

She began rowing as a way to train for lacrosse.
