Western Grad Nina Wojtkiewicz Named NCAA Woman Of The Year Honoree

DANBURY, Conn. — Despite making frequent appearances on the Dean’s List and taking her time in the classroom seriously, Western Connecticut State University graduate Nina Wojtkiewicz says her most savored moments at the Danbury university have been on the court and in the field.

It’s no surprise this student-athlete was recognized as a conference honoree for the 2015 National Collegiate Athletic Association Woman of the Year award. The volleyball and softball player was one of 480 athletes to be nominated for the conference honor. The selection committee will select the top 10 honorees in each of the three NCAA divisions in early September before determining the top three finalists in each division.

From those nine women, one will be selected for the title, which will be announced at an awards dinner on Oct. 18.

“My most memorable experiences come from the sports that I have played.” said Wojtkiewicz in a press release. “Between volleyball and softball, we have been to the NCAA tournament three times. Winning the LEC tournament is a feeling that is almost indescribable until you get to experience it for yourself."
