Another Cold Snap: Snow, Plunging Temps Headed For Danbury

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — It will be sunny and warm Wednesday, but don't be fooled into believing it's spring. There's a 60 percent chance of snow on Friday and temperatures in Fairfield County will plunge below freezing by the end of the week, with overnight lows in the teens. 

Though Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be pretty warm, cold temperatures will return to Fairfield County by Thursday night, heading into a cold weekend with some possible snow on Friday.

A cold front will pass through the region Wednesday morning, bringing with it some possible scattered showers, according to the National Weather Service. But afterwards it will clear up, and temperatures will be well above normal, with a high around 56 and some 60 degree readings possible away from the coasts.

There will be some southwest winds between 11 and 13 mph, and gusts as high as 24 mph. Low pressure over central Canada will keep windy conditions in place through Thursday, with temperatures above normal. Wednesday night will be partly cloudy, with wind chill values between 25 and 30.

There will be increasing clouds on Thursday, when the high will be near 49. Wind chill values will be between 25 and 35 early, and gusts will be as high as 28 mph. It will start to cool down by Thursday night, which will see a 50 percent chance of showers after 9 p.m. and a low around 29.

Snow is likely to hit Friday before 3 p.m., followed by a chance of rain and snow. The high will be near 38. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent, with new snow accumulation of one to two inches possible. Friday night will be cloudy, with a low around 14.

The weekend is predicted to be clear and cold, particularly at night. Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high near 25. The low will be around 14 Saturday night. On Sunday it will be partly sunny with a high near 30, with temperatures dropping to a low around 16 at night.
