Last weekend was bitterly cold with strong winds and temps in the single digits. The middle of this week was sunny and warm with highs near 60.
And Friday's snow, which began to fall early across Fairfield County, will be followed by a return of frigid temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.

The morning snowstorm was enough to close all the school districts across Fairfield County, although it caused few traffic problems because the snow did not accumulate on the roadways.
The storm alternated between heavy squalls with poor visibility and then with light, small flurries.
The Winter Weather Advisory in place for the state of Connecticut will end at 2 p.m. Friday as the snow tapers off.
A total of 3 to 5 inches of snow is expected across Fairfield County.
And when it ends, temperatures will plunge. They will fall into the teens by Friday night, with wind chill values of -5 and 5 as wind gusts pick up to 25 mph.
Saturday and Sunday will be partly sunny, with highs only in the mid-20s. Wind chills will make it feel as cold as 0 to 5 degrees. Overnight lows will drop to about 10 degrees.
And by Monday night, there's another storm in the forecast. The National Weather Service says there is 50 percent chance of snow.
And it may be a lot of snow: Hazardous Weather Outlook statement from the Weather Service says, "There is potential for a strong coastal storm producing a significant snowfall and strong winds Monday Night into Tuesday Night."
