DANBURY, Conn. -- Mayor Mark Boughton went to Twitter and the phone lines to tell Danbury residents that the city is under a Level 1 Snow Emergency on Thursday, March 5.

The snow emergency began at 10 a.m. Residents are asked to move cars off city streets so snowplowing and sanding can begin.

Residents are also asked to shovel sidewalks and around fire hydrants near their homes.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday for Fairfield County. The snow, which began overnight, will continue across the area until about 4 p.m., with temperatures in the mid-20s. Total daytime accumulations could be up to 5 inches.

Schools in Danbury are closed Thursday due to icy road conditions.

Light snow could linger in the evening hours, with minimal accumulations before skies gradually clear.

With the icy conditions, a tractor-trailer slid on Wilson Street early Thursday and hit a home on Grand Street . No injuries were reported.
