Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued For Danbury

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for northern and central Fairfield County Tuesday afternoon.

The severe thunderstorm warning was issued at 3:59 p.m. and is in effect until 4:45 p.m. At 3:57 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extended from near Sherman to near Fahnestock State Park in Carmel, N.Y., moving east at 30 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

The severe thunderstorms could bring wind gusts up to 60 mph, as well as quarter-sized hail. Hail damage to vehicles is expected, and residents can expect wind damage to roofs, siding and trees.

The thunderstorms will be near New Fairfield at around 4 p.m., near Danbury and Brookfield at 4:10 p.m., near Newtown at around 4:20 p.m., near Ridgefield and Bethel at 4:35 p.m., and near Redding at 4:45 p.m.

For your protection, residents should move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Large hail and damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. 

The National Weather Service warns that lightning is one of nature's leading killers, and that if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
