The films were recently announced as official selections in the festival and will have their world premieres at Tribeca.

Stamford native Rick Rosenthal is the producer of "A Thousand Junkies," directed and written by Tommy Swerdlow.

The feature-length film is about three heroin addicts who crisscross Los Angeles in search of relief.

It is a comedy balanced on the fine line between reliance and independence.

Rosenthal is best known for his drama, "Bad Boys," which helped establish Sean Penn’s career.

He has directed many genres, including the comedy "American Dreamer," coming-of-age film, "Nearing Grace," and horror with "Halloween II."

His television work includes ABC’s pilot of "Life Goes On," and he was nominated recently for a Directors Guild of Canada award for "Beauty and The Beast."

Rosenthal now lives in Los Angeles.

Brookfield native Lydia Tenaglia is the producer of the feature documentary "WASTED! The Story of Food Waste." The documentary is directed by Anna Chai and Nari Kye.

Each year, $218 billion — or 1.3 billion tons — of food is thrown out. With nearly a billion people worldwide facing starvation, food conservation is a more urgent issue than ever before.

The fast-paced documentary takes a tour of inventive ideas for recycling waste and maximizing sustainability from innovative chefs who turn scraps into feasts.

Tenaglia is co-founder/executive producer of Zero Point Zero Production Inc.

The Tribeca Film Festival runs April 19 to April 30.
