The VIPs will work outdoors with park employees in the park's historic gardens and help staff the Weir and Young Studios to share the stories of Weir Farm with visitors.

“Weir Farm has a volunteer opportunity to match your interests and available free time. It's fun and rewarding,” said Liz Castagna, a volunteer. “I encourage you to join our volunteer family at your local national park."

The park is currently recruiting for the following positions:

Studio Docent: The volunteers should have a passion for art, history or national parks and be interested in sharing the stories of the artists associated with Weir Farm with visitors to the park. Training is provided. This opportunity is for 18 and up.

Garden Gang: The volunteers should enjoy working outdoors. They will work hands-on to help beautify the park grounds. For ages 16 and up.

Take Part in Art: The volunteers will encourage visitors to discover the inner artists while painting outdoors. The outdoor painting program runs May to October. Duties include cleaning and stocking watercolor painting kits and providing basic orientation to visitors.

The volunteers with skills in a watercolor painting may provide informal instruction during their shifts, though this is not a requirement. Volunteers do not need to be an artist. For 14 and up.

One-time Volunteer Opportunities: The volunteers will help the park when it hosts special volunteer service events throughout the year. This is for someone interested in helping the park but unable to make a long-term commitment. The park also works with youth and corporate groups.

For information, contact Ranger Kristin Lessard at Kristin_lessard@nps.gov. For ages 10 and up.
