Blue Colony Diner, 66 Church Hill Road, Newtown, (203) 426-0745

Been Around Since: 1973.

Known For: Attentive, speedy and friendly wait staff along with the challah bread that’s so awesome customers order loaves to take home. Folks also rave about the insane desserts and the cookies that, one patron said, “are bigger than your head.” Other menu items with high marks: the matzoh ball soup, the Reuben with tender meat and perfectly textured sauerkraut, and the deliciously light Belgium waffles.

Behind the Scenes: Just like “Cheers,” where everybody knows your name, the longtime waitstaff – including one who has been there for more than 40 years -- always find time to chat while speedily taking orders and dispensing the Patty Melts. Oh, and it’s super accessible from I-84.
