Juan Garcia and Donald Remson received a Civilian Recognition Award on Monday, Dec. 17 for the actions they displayed in an incident earlier in the month.

On Saturday, Dec. 8, Garcia witnessed a woman attempting to jump off Stroffolino Bridge. He exited his vehicle while telling his daughter, who was with him at the time, to call 911. Garcia then grabbed the woman as she was climbing over the bridge’s railing.

Garcia was able to grab the woman but unable to help her back over the railing and to safety. At this point, Remson observed the incident while driving on the bridge and stopped to help. Together, Garcia and Remson helped the woman to safety.

Garcia and Remson stayed with the woman until authorities arrived. Police say that the these gentlemen intervened on an apparent suicide attempt and ultimately helped to prevent her from jumping into a “frigid” Norwalk River.
