As executive director of The Ridgefield Playhouse, she devotes her time to running the theater and donates her entire salary back to the playhouse.

Stockel developed outreach programs, including Arts for Everyone and Arts in Education, that help make theater and the arts accessible to everyone. Many children from Title 1 schools have been able to see live performances for the first time as a result of her efforts.

The playhouse also provides live entertainment to children in Ridgefield and surrounding towns, which directly correlates to the curriculum in the local schools. Stockel also supports a large number of organizations in Ridgefield, greater Danbury and other surrounding communities by serving on numerous boards and leading local fundraising efforts.

Stockel also delivers food as part of the Hillside Food Outreach program and is involved in its fundraising galas as a committee member. In addition, Stockel enjoys hosting two girls from A Better Chance. Stockel, her husband Jon and their two children have lived in Ridgefield for 15 years.

United Way of Western Connecticut will host its third annual Hometown Heroes Benefit Dinner at The Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury on Saturday, Feb. 27.

The honorees all distinguish themselves through philanthropy and volunteerism.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Sonia Manzano, the author and actress who inspired, educated, and delighted children and families as "Maria" on "Sesame Street" for more than 30 years.

A first generation American of Latino descent, Sonia’s story is one of perseverance and courage as she overcame countless obstacles to become one of the most influential Latinas in television.

The event will include dinner and dancing, as well as silent and live auctions. The evening will be emceed by NFL stadium announcer, John Heffernan. Proceeds from this event will benefit UWWC’s work in support of ALICE families throughout Northern Fairfield and Southern Litchfield Counties.
