CityCenter Danbury Lines Up Acts For Summer Concerts On The Green

DANBURY, Conn. -- CityCenter Danbury's 2014 Summer Concerts on the Green kick off with the Danbury Symphony Orchestra's pop salute to "Heroes & Villains" on Saturday, June 14.

All the concerts are free and held outdoors at the band shell on the green. Pack a picnic and enjoy the shows, which are suitable for all ages.

The CityCenter Danbury Green (at Ives Street) is surrounded by ample public parking including the Patriot Garage, directly behind the bandshell on Delay Street, and the Bardo Garage at Library Place on the west side of Main Street. The concert lineup then begins in earnest on Friday, July 11, and runs through Saturday, Aug. 23. The series will offer an eclectic and multi-generational sounds - including American R&B, new school soul, golden oldies, country and rockabilly, salutes to the 1969 Woodstock Festival, RUSH and the Grand Ole Opry, and more.

The event concludes with the Taste of Greater Danbury on Saturday, Sept. 6, and Sunday, Sept. 7.

This year's lineup is supported by Union Savings Bank, Family and Children's Aid, Ventura, Ribeiro & Smith, Guitar Center, Danbury Cultural Commission, Danbury Parking Authority, BRT Corp., Dental Associates of Connecticut, Fairfield County Bank, Non-Profit Rental Housing Corporation, Savings Bank of Danbury, and The City of Danbury.

Most shows begin with an opening act at 7 p.m. and the main event at 8 p.m. (unless indicated). The calendar for this year includes:

  • Friday, July 11, Eugene Dobbs & the Nu-Cutters, with opening act The Trolls
  • Saturday, July 12, Back to the Garden with opening act Joey V,
  • Friday, July 18, Blues Buddha with opening act The Mudd Band
  • Saturday, July 19, Streets of the Bronx with opening act Take Two
  • Sunday, July 20, noon to 6 p.m. Random Compassion: Act II to support Ann‘s Place, a community-based, regional cancer support center. In addition to live performances by local indie bands, including Loom, Take on Car, Alex Minton, The Backdoor Boys and others, the event will feature vendors, with food and beverage for sale. Attendees are encouraged to make a tax-deductible donation to Ann‘s Place. Rain location: Danbury High School, 43 Clapboard Ridge Road
  • Friday, July 25, Bascamp, with opening act Skanktones  
  • Saturday, July 26, In Harmony, with opening act The Bandolins
  • Friday, Aug. 1, Roxy Perry, with opening act Briane Chasanoff
  • Saturday, Aug. 2, Limelight, a tribute to Rush, with opening act Backdoor Boys
  • Friday, Aug. 8, Sister Funk, with opening act Dawn Drake & Zapote,
  • Saturday, Aug. 9, Take Six, with opening act Patrick "PK" Kirker
  • Thursday, Aug. 14, 7:30 p.m.., Danbury Drum Corps, with opening activities at 6:15 p.m.
  • Friday. Aug. 15, Mad Satta, opening act Out Funked
  • Saturday, Aug. 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Jai-Ho Indian Festival, with music, dance, fashion, arts and crafts, community performances, cultural activities, evening Bollywood concert and a variety of food stalls to celebrate the culture and diversity of India.   • Saturday, Aug. 23, Gunsmoke with opening act Candlewood
