A convicted felon in Connecticut who took police on a brief foot chase before being apprehended is facing more time behind bars after admitting to having an illegal handgun.

Adrian “A.B.” Bell, of New Haven, has pleaded guilty in Hartford Federal Court to one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, dating back to an incident earlier this year in March.

On March 18, Belle, 24, was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by New Haven police officers. John Durham, the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, said that when prompted to step out of the vehicle, Belle reached into the center console of the vehicle, exited and fled on foot. While running, officers spotted Belle throw an object while being pursued.

Once he was apprehended and handcuffed, officers found a Smith and Wesson .380 caliber firearm with an obliterated serial number in Belle’s right jacket pocket. They also recovered a loaded magazine that Belle threw while he was running from police.

Durham noted that Belle’s criminal history includes a conviction in October 2014 for robbery and in August 2011, he was convicted on three counts of assault.

Belle has been detained since his arrest in March. He will face a maximum term of up to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced later this year.
