Danbury Teen Charged In Ponzi Scheme: 'It Feels Right In My Heart'

DANBURY, Conn. -- The teenage owner of a popular Danbury nightclub charged with running a $500,000 Ponzi scheme said in an interview with NBCConnecticut.com that “it feels right in my heart that this is what I should be doing.”

Ian Bick, 19, of Danbury, was charged Friday with federal fraud, money laundering and false statement offenses stemming from allegations that he ran a Ponzi scheme. The indictment was returned Thursday, and Bick was arrested at his home Friday morning. He also was arrested by U.S. Postal Service agents at his home on mail fraud, wire fraud and other charges.

Bick owns Tuxedo Junction in Danbury, a popular nightclub for teenagers and young adults. Bick is a 2013 graduate of Danbury High School. 

“I’ve been through a lot in my life and I’ve learned a lot in those experiences,’’ Bick said in the interview with the television station. “Every one of those bad experiences and good experiences brought me to this point. It feels right in my heart that this is what I should be doing. It’s going to become very successful.”

Bick did not answer a direct question about the arrest.

The indictment charges Bick with 11 counts of wire fraud, which carry a maximum of 20 years in prison on each count; three counts of money laundering, which carry a maximum of 10 years in prison on each count; and one count of making a false statement to federal law enforcement, which carries a maximum term of five years.

He is accused of using the money to buy jet skis and pay for hotel stays.
