Metro-North Adjusts Danbury Branch Trains After Moving Woodpile Near Tracks

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Metro-North crews worked throughout throughout the day on Monday to make the track area safe for travel on the Danbury Branch.

Also, train service has also been restored on the New Canaan Branch as of 4:45 p.m. for the Monday afternoon and evening rush hour.

On the Danbury Branch, train service was knocked out for the day while workers cleared a massive woodpile. It was atop an embankment that had begun to give way near the tracks near the Wilton station during the powerful nor'easter that slammed the area overnight.   

After providing bus service for much of Monday, some train service will resume on the Danbury Branch for the Monday evening rush hour — but with a number of adjustments. 

Here is the schedule for the Danbury Branch from Metro-North for Monday afternoon and evening: 

Outbound to Danbury

The 4:11 p.m. train from Grand Central Terminal, connecting with the 5:18 p.m. train from Stamford to Danbury, will operate normally, including the connection to Danbury.

The 5:07 p.m. train from Grand Central Terminal to Danbury will terminate in South Norwalk. Substitute bus service will operate between South Norwalk and Danbury.

The 5:49 p.m. train from Grand Central Terminal to Danbury is canceled.

The 6:16 p.m. train from Grand Central Terminal to Danbury is combined with the 6:13 p.m. train to Bridgeport, departing at 6:16 p.m. and making all stops from Stamford to Bridgeport. Customers traveling to Danbury Branch stations will connect with a shuttle train at South Norwalk, making all stops to Danbury.

The 8:06 p.m. train from South Norwalk to Danbury is canceled.

The 8:01 p.m. train to Danbury will operate.

The 10:47 p.m. and 12:35 a.m. trains from South Norwalk to Danbury will be replaced by substitute bus service.

Inbound to South Norwalk and New York

All inbound trains will be replaced by substitute bus service.

And good news for tomorrow: Metro-North said it expects to resume regular train service Tuesday morning, Oct. 31.
