Two are believed to be baby powder, officials said.
The first package was discovered around 11 a.m. Wednesday at the state's Dept. of Education office, at 450 Columbus Blvd. in Hartford, state police said.
State police said they immediately began to evacuate the building and blocked off surrounding streets including Columbus Boulevard and Talcott Street.
A second incident occurred at the Federal Court House in Hartford and the investigation is being headed up by federal agents at that location, state police said.
Not long after, police and firefighters responded to another office building on Columbus Boulevard for a suspicious powder, according to the Hartford Courant.
Later in the afternoon, white powder was also discovered at an office building on Oak St., the Courant said.
A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s office told the Courant that federal authorities were investigating.
No injuries were reported at any of the sights.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said the incident was ongoing in an afternoon news release: “The Connecticut State Police was notified of a threat at the Grasso-Fauliso State Office Building and the federal courthouse in downtown Hartford and immediately responded. Special units are on site and working closely with our federal and local partners to assess the situation. The state police will be taking every measure to protect the safety and security of personnel and visitors in the buildings and surrounding areas,” Malloy said.
