Danbury Man Charged In Crash Near School That Killed Elderly Bethel Woman

DANBURY, Conn. — A 45-year-old Danbury man was charged with manslaughter in the death of an elderly Bethel woman in a crash in May near Shelter Rock Elementary School, according to the News-Times.

Frankie Macnear was arrested Monday and charged with second-degree manslaughter, insurance coverage fails minimum requirements, reckless driving not greater than 85 mph, unsafe passing, no passing zone and reckless endangerment, the News-Times said.

The crash occurred at about 12:40 p.m. May 25, when Macnear 44, of Brewster, N.Y., was speeding in his 2002 Honda Civic southeast on Shelter Rock Road and crossed the double yellow line, police said.

He struck a 2016 Subaru Impreza head-on that was being driven by Hannelore Hillebrand, 85, of Bethel, police said.

The crash occurred at 130 Shelter Rock Road, near Shelter Rock Elementary School, police said.

Both drivers were transported to Danbury Hospital, where Hillebrand died of her injuries, police said.
