A four-alarm fire destroyed a restaurant and adjoining apartments and led to the hours-long closure of a stretch of Route 22 in the area, according to fire officials.

Multiple tanker trucks and firefighters from throughout the region rushed to the scene of the blaze in Dutchess County at the three-story structure in which people were inside at the time the fire started at the Dover Cafe and six apartments, said officials with the Dover Plains Fire Department.

Tanker trucks are being staged at the Dunkin' Donuts to bring in additional water to the scene due to firefighters having trouble accessing water.

New York State Police closed Route 22 between Route 343 and Mill Street in the area of the fire and are advising motorists to use alternate routes.

Police said no injuries were reported.
