DANBURY, Conn. -- A suspect was arrested Friday in connection with a bank robbery on Main Street in Danbury after a police officer recognized him on the surveillance video, police said.

Officers responded to a hold-up alarm at the Webster Bank at 301 Main St. in the the Wooster Plaza shopping area at 2:54 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 27, police said. No injuries were reported in the bank robbery.

When checking the bank’s surveillance video footage, one officer recognized the suspect as Samuel Semidey, 32, and knew there was an active arrest warrant for him on a charge of sixth-degree larceny, police said.

A short time after the robbery, officers spotted Semidey and arrested him on the outstanding warrant, police said. He was held on $5,000 bond on that charge.

Based on the investigation, a warrant to arrest Semidey in connection with the bank robbery was issued, police said. He was charged Friday with first-degree robbery in the Webster Bank incident and held on $50,000 bond, police said.

At the time his arrest in the bank robbery, Semidey was also charged with two separate violation of probation warrants that had been issued earlier in the day. Each of those charges carried a $50,000 bond.
