Police: 3 Arrested After Danbury Kidnapping Victim Jumps From Moving Car

DANBURY, Conn. -- Two men robbed and assaulted a third man outside a Danbury gas station, then forced him into a car, kidnapped him and threatened to kill him if he did not give them more money late Monday, police said.

The victim escaped by jumping from the moving car in northern Danbury as the suspects threatened to kill him with a gun, police said in a statement from Lt. Christian Carroccio.

The incident began, the victim told officers, when he was at a gas station on North Main Street with two friends at about 10 p.m. Monday, police said. The victim said he was counting money inside the store and as he left, he was approached by John Fernandez, 21, and Christopher West, 24, both of Danbury, police said.

West and Fernandez, who the victim knows, began assaulting him and demanding his money, police said. They forced him into a vehicle and drove north on Clapboard Ridge Road as they continued to assault him and demand more money, police said. 

The men threatened to take the victim somewhere and kill him with a firearm, police said. The victim then jumped out of the moving vehicle in the area of 219 Clapboard Ridge Road near the 7-Eleven.

Patrol units and detectives investigated and identified a third suspect, Ivan Guevara, 20, of Danbury, police said.  

The three suspects were found at a hotel in Bethel and taken into custody with the assistance of the Bethel Police Department, police said.

Guevara was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, first-degree kidnapping with a firearm, first-degree conspiracy to commit kidnapping with a firearm, third-degree assault, third-degree conspiracy to commit assault and second-degree threatening. Guevara was held on $100,000 bond.

West was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, first-degree kidnapping with a firearm, first-degree conspiracy to commit kidnapping with a firearm, third-degree assault, third-degree conspiracy to commit assault and second-degree threatening. West was held on $100,000 bond.

Fernandez was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, first-degree kidnapping with a firearm, first-degree conspiracy to commit kidnapping with a firearm, third-degree assault, third-degree conspiracy to commit assault and second-degree threatening. Fernandez was held on $250,000 bond.
