State Police Find 38 Pounds Of Pot In Danbury Vehicle Stop

DANBURY, Conn. – State police seized 37.6 pounds of marijuana during a motor vehicle stop on Interstate 84 in Danbury on Monday and lodged drug charges against the driver, police said.

Trooper First Class Jason Cassavechia spotted a speeding Ford Focus traveling east on I-84 near Exit 2 and tried to pull the driver over, State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance said Tuesday.

The driver – identified as William J. Servos, 28, of 158 Newington Road, West Hartford – was traveling at speeds of up to 85 mph before he finally pulled over on southbound Route 7 near the Danbury Fair Mall.

As he approached the car, Cassavechia smelled a strong odor of marijuana, police said. During a search of the car, he saw a small bag of pot on the passenger floor, police said. Cassavechia kept searching the car and found two large suitcases containing a total of 37.6 pounds of pot, police said.

Servos was placed into custody and charged with the following misdemeanors: possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana greater than 1 kilogram, possession of drug paraphernalia and reckless driving. He was released after posting $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Danbury Superior Court on Oct. 1.
