Danbury's Incumbents, Bond Measure Score Victories In Election

DANBURY, Conn. -- Familiar faces will be returning to the state's General Assembly as many of the incumbents who represent Danbury won in Tuesday's election as city voters also approved a $20 million bond package for public projects.

Deputy House Speaker Bob Godfrey was re-elected by Danbury voters.

The winners in the city of Danbury's five districts in the state House of Representatives are:

In District 108, Republican incumbent Richard Smith ran unopposed and won.
In District 109, Democratic incumbent David Arconti beat back a challenge from Republican Joshua Stanley.
In District 110, Democratic incumbent Bob Godfrey beat Republican challenger Frank Goncalves.
In District 2, Republican incumbent Dan Carter fought off a touch challenge from Democratic challenger Candace Fay. This seat also includes part of Redding.
In District 138, incumbent Republican Janice Giegler beat Democrat Henry Hall. This district also includes part of Ridgefield.

In the state Senate race for District 24, incumbent Republican Michael McLachlan ran unopposed and was re-elected.

Danbury voters also passed a $20 million bond measure to pay for road repairs and other public works projects..

The appropriation and bond money would include funds for the following projects:

$1 million to upgrade and replace equipment in the Public Safety Communications Network.
$6.5 million for the road reconstruction. It includes funds for rebuilding, paving, curbing, guardrail, resurfacing, lighting, and beautification projects for city streets, parking lots and easements.
$3 million for the Public Works Equipment and Vehicle Replacement Program.
$4 million for engineering for the bridge repairs and replacement.
$5.5 million to repair and replace roofs on city-owned buildings.

For probate judge, incumbent Republican Diane Yamin was re-elected without an opposing candidate. For registrars of voters, Democrat Margaret Gallo and Republican Mary Ann Doran also ran unopposed and were re-elected.
