Sen. McLachlan Blasts State Cuts To Danbury Hospital

DANBURY, Conn. -- State Sen. Michael McLachlan, R-Danbury, has slammed Gov. Dannel Malloy for announcing deep budget cuts to hospitals across the state, including $6.9 million in cuts to Danbury Hospital.

“These misguided cuts will adversely impact the delivery and quality of health care services in greater Danbury,” McLachlan said. “There were other routes the governor could have taken to cut the budget, but he has once again gone after Connecticut’s hospitals. This cut to one of our biggest community assets in Danbury will be felt by vulnerable individuals and families across our region. How disappointing that the governor has made this choice. It is now up to Republicans and Democrats to work together to pick up the pieces and restore these cuts. I hope Democrats will heed the Republican call for a special session of the state legislature so that we can repair this damage as soon as possible.”

The Office of Policy and Management also recently released a list of fiscal year 2016 budgetary rescissions. Included in this list was a reduction to the Department of Social Services’ Medicaid account of $63.5 million.

The reduction eliminates the final three fiscal quarterly installments for both the Medicaid Supplemental and Small Hospital Pool payments. The Medicaid Supplemental Pool is the mechanism by which the state returns to the hospitals a portion of hospital tax revenue.

The small hospital pool, established in the recent legislative session, goes to hospitals that have less than 160 acute care beds, are not part of a hospital group and are not in contiguous towns.

McLachlan said the public may contact Malloy’s office during business hours at 860-566-4840. McLachlan can be reached at 860-240-0068 or at Michael.McLachlan@cga.ct.gov.
