Danbury's WestConn Hosts Symposium On ‘The Economy And You’

DANBURY, Conn. – Western Connecticut State University in Danbury is hosting an economic symposium, “The Economy and You,” on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 6 p.m. at the Ives Concert Hall.

The symposium will feature a slate of experts, including Western Connecticut State University President James Schmotter, Western Connecticut Health Network’s CEO Dr. John Murphy and international economist Nicholas Perna, an adviser to Webster Bank.

The event's host is Robert Reby, CEO of Danbury-based Reby Advisors.

The welcome session begins at 6 p.m., followed by Schmotter’s discussion on “Building a Better Education System,” Murphy’s insights on “The Future of Health Care” and Perna’s lecture on “Will the Jobless Recovery Continue.”

After the main session, starting at 7 p.m. there will be a series of breakout sessions, including:

  • The Future is Here: Cars That Drive Themselves, led by Bob Camastro, general manager and owner of Mercedes-Benz of Danbury and Wappingers Falls
  • Is Your Home a Good Investment?, led by Paul Scalzo, owner of Scalzo Group
  • The American Manufacturing Comeback, led by James Marquis, president of Kimchuck Inc.
  • How to Rob a Bank (Online Theft), led by Officer Jay Mortara of the Danbury Police Department
