DANBURY, Conn. -- The Wooster School's turkey drive collected 192 turkeys for the Daily Bread Food Pantry in Danbury.
The turkey drive involved the collective efforts of families from throughout Wooster’s Upper, Middle and Lower Schools, as well as staff and faculty, alumni and the board of trustees.
Upon the Wooster students' arrival at the Daily Bread, its event coordinator, Jill Shaw, got the students directly involved in distributing the many items that made up the Thanksgiving bags each guest received.
More than 400 turkeys and meals were distributed during the event.
Upper School student Elizabeth Ashton was energized by the work of helping people get their bags to their cars and home.
“It is great to know that so many people will have a full thanksgiving feast who otherwise might go hungry,” she said.
Later in the morning, students were able to rotate into the pantry area to help restock shelves with new donations of canned vegetables, fruit, pasta, rice, beans, tomatoes and other staples.
The Daily Bread Food Pantry serves a diverse group of clients from the greater Danbury area. Everyone is welcome. It helps approximately 500-600 families a month. For more information, click here .
