DANBURY, Conn. — Wooster School girls basketball coach Dave Nutt won his 800th varsity game Wednesday in the school's 48-16 victory over Masters.

With the win, Wooster clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Housatonic Valley Athletic League (HVAL) tournament and is currently the No. 1 ranked Class E team in NEPSAC (New England Preparatory School Athletic Council).

MacNutt started teaching and coaching at Wooster School in 1992. He has a record of 800-229 and has led the Wooster Generals varsity girls basketball team to 23 NEPSAC Tournaments, two NEPSAC Class E Championships, 16 league titles, 6sixundefeated seasons and another 12 undefeated seasons in league play.

MacNutt's teams are not only known for being one of the stronger independent school teams in New England, they have also been recognized for their sportsmanship throughout the years, winning a total of eight Sportsmanship Awards as voted on by the Connecticut chapter of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials.

MacNutt started his coaching career in 1984. Prior to his arrival at Wooster School he led the girls and boys varsity basketball programs at Rutgers Prep School in New Jersey, Far Hills Country Day School in New New Jersey and Friends Seminary in New York.

Following the game, Coach MacNutt celebrated this accomplishment with Wooster fans and invited guests. A presentation of a plaque in his honor and a celebratory cake was enjoyed by all in attendance.

“These types of moments provide an opportunity to reflect on all of the great players that I’ve had the pleasure to coach … as well as all of the great coaches that I’ve had the honor to work with,” MacNutt said. “I also think about the many wonderful mentors who have inspired, taught, and supported me along this journey. I share this day with all of the above. It’s been a highly rewarding ride.”
