DANBURY, Conn. -- A Level 1 snow emergency has been declared for the city of Danbury effective at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Mayor Mark Boughton announced via a reverse phone call.
Residents are asked to move their cars off city streets by 4 p.m. to allow the city to begin removing snow, he said.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning through 6 a.m. Wednesday. A total of 6 to 12 inches of snow is expected to fall, accompanied by strong winds and extreme cold for Tuesday evening and overnight into Wednesday, Boughton said.
"Driving in and around Danbury during the overnight hours will be dangerous," he said.
Snow was beginning to cover city streets by Tuesday afternoon.
"Roads are snow covered and slick," Boughton said via Twitter @MayorMark. "Please drive carefully."
